Biography
I have been directing commercials for years. Most of my commercials are comedy. Kind of quirky comedy.
About the casting, I prefer anti-heroes to regular heroes. Why? Anti-heroes are more interesting. More lovable.
About my storytelling; less is usually more. Some call my style deadpan, minimal, but… lovable.
A business insider wrote about me some years ago:
”Born in a town near the Russian border, so small that even Olli has hard time of locating it on the map. This gentle little shy boy grew up in Savo, where yes means perhaps, and no means, ”we’ll talk about over a bottle of grain Vodka” (that you will provide).
Growing up in a totally confused enviroment, it was only natural that Olli decided to become a advertising film director.
At some point Olli grew tired of the long winters, and yearned for a warmer climate. He decided to move to Chicago, the windy city, where winters are long, dark and cold.
The film school was good, and so were the ladies.
So, after few years of spreading his wicked bipolar Savo-way-of-thinking, Olli scored a American beauty, who to everybody’s surprise decided to have couple kids with him, and move to Finland.
By the time Olli got back to Finland something odd had happened. His truly perverted way of seeing everyday life had actually developed to something funny, warm, humane and unique.
And Olli worked a lot, say 17 years straight, while collecting all the possible awards. To say he was the Michael Schumacher of advertising directors of Finland would not be an overstatement, without the fame, wealth, and Ferrari of course.
To make it simple: Olli is rooting for the little guy, in a discreet and charming way.”
